Have you heard? Tesla CEO and real life Tony Stark just drooled a sick new track on SoundCloud. In addition to The Boring Company hats, Flamethrowers, Tesla Tequila, Elon Musk can now add EDM record to his growing list of equally impressive side hustles.
Unlike most people who will be writing about this monumental occasion, I and uniquely qualified to speak on it because unlike most writers, I was and still am an EDM DJ/Producer and Recording Artist with performances all around the world under my belt. I was even signed to Ultra Records which is considered the premiere EDM label in the music industry. Here’s a trip down memory lane:
The Tesla CEO hinted earlier this week On Twitter as he normally does, that he had written a new song called “Don’t Doubt ur Vibe,” to be released on “Emo G Records,” but as usual it was hard to tell if Musk was just trolling or was actually serious about this end about.
Turns out, he was for real, and today he dropped it like it’s hot. Judging solely on the merits of the record, as a musician I think it’s a good first try. You can tell he basically went into the studio with one line in mind and repeated over and over and over and over and over again. Now that’s not a knock on him because that’s pretty much the formula for making an EDM record. You start with the a catchy line or phrase and than you can repeat over and over and over and over again.
The idea is that most EDM festival goes up pretty high or on some sort of substance while at the festival, so it doesn’t take much to put them in a trance to keep them on the dispel for hours on end.
The whole song consists of Musk repeating the phrase “Don’t doubt your vibe / because it’s true / don’t doubt your vibe / because it’s you” with your prerequisite EDM vocal modulation and distortion. The actual track is not pretty bad. The drop is on point and I can see myself spinning this at my next set. Listen for yourself and tell me what you think:
Just so there is no doubt that Elon Musk did this record himself, he has receipts in the form of a tweet of himself in the studio actually recording the track, and opined that the process of putting together the song was maybe harder than he’d anticipated. Yeah ‘No shit Sherlock’. If it was that easy, everyone will be on the Billboard charts.
Musk did not give any further indication on whether this is a career path he wants to pursue of it thus will be a one off thing. But as someone who has an interest in anything Musk does professionally, I would like to hear more music from him..perhaps an album or at least tracks that can be at red to the Tesla in-car playlist.
Musk is currently on a roll. Tesla stock skyrocketed on positive earnings reported yesterday; he beat a defamation accusation in court last month; his Starlink project is coming together; and SpaceX is making good progress on its commercial crew flight program, nailing its last major test flight before crewed missions earlier this month.
